The Sustainability Movement in Relation to Business and Image Management

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

If you are at all interested in learning about the people, companies, and organizations working to make the world a better place from an environmental standpoint, you have come to the right spot. This blog will focus on the trends and news around the eco-friendly and sustainability movement, and how the movement affects the decisions that organizations, people, and companies are making to better their image, increase sales, promote their efforts, and reduce their footprint.

As a young, and I would like to say progressive individual who has grown up on the West Coast, being environmentally friendly and learning about the importance of sustainability has been a huge aspect of my life. While I am currently finishing up my time as a public relations major in the School of Journalism and Communications at the University of Oregon, I also work as a freelance public relations and marketing coordinator for a national produce company. The company focuses much of its efforts on running the most sustainable business it can for health, environmental, and PR and marketing purposes. After spending much of my time promoting my company’s many sustainable practices, I became interested in why this is so important in today’s times and began to notice the huge amount of time and energy much of the world is putting into becoming more eco-friendly. For the first time, I began to look at sustainability from a public relations and Marketing standpoint, due to the way companies are recognizing the use of this movement as a promotional tool.

With such a large focus on minimizing global warming, the use of our natural resources, and health issues associated with pesticides and other chemicals in education and media today, the environmental movement has become extremely prominent in all aspects of image management, and business. To be trendy and to get large amounts of support and or sales it is imperative for organizations, people, and businesses to acknowledge and act upon this movement. Understanding how this movement impacts society today is invaluable in the public relations and marketing world, which is why I will be analyzing it on a weekly basis on your behalf.
